Building Teams

Hi All! I am excited to connect with you all during the buildathon!

I am reaching out seeking guidance on team building. I am eager to understand the process better and would greatly appreciate any insights or instructions since this is my first buildathon.

I have learned that there will be team building exercises at the beginning of the event. Should we aim to form teams prior to the buildathon's commencement, or will teams be formed during these exercises? Additionally, I am curious about the ideal composition of a team. What roles should each team ideally encompass to ensure effectiveness and success? Any advice, especially from the managers or mentors, on how to navigate the process of finding the right team would be invaluable.

    Hi Aiman!

    We're encouraging builders to form teams during the Buildathon. However if there's someone amongst the current participants you'd like to work with, feel free to send a team up request via Devpost! We'll have team building activities during the buildathon as well as a discord channel specifically geared to help you connect with other builders. The Discord will be open next week. In regards to the ideal composition, a well rounded team will typically have a Designer, Developer, and Project/Product Manager. Depending on your skillset, it'll be valuable to form a team based on skillsets you don't have! So if you're a developer, looking for great designers and managers and possibly an additional developer to help you with your workload would be best. I hope that helps!

    Thank you Darlyze! Your insights are greatly appreciated. I do have a follow-up question: Should we be concerned about the possibility of not finding a team to join, or can we expect that all participants will be to join or get assigned to a team during the buildathon?

    If a participant finds themselves without a team by the second week of the Buildathon, the planning team will contact them along with any others who may not have found a team and facilitate team creation with them. However, we expect that everyone will be able to find a team! We do encourage our builders to encourage friends and colleagues to join the Buildathon as well to help ensure you have possible teammates :)
